24 March 2017

It received the RESEARCH SPONSORSHIP AWARD for its contribution to the work presented at the Venice Architecture Biennale by the Alicante professor and architect Joaquin Alvado

The prize-giving ceremony was held yesterday for the first Alicante University Social Council Awards. These awards are the reflection of the union between excellence, sponsorship and the academic world and Alicante society and were presented in the Provincial Auditorium (ADDA). A total of 22 prizes were presented to persons and institutions, divided into 15 categories in order to recognise collaboration with the university.

Levantina was very proud to collect its award in recognition of its contribution to the research undertaken by the architect and Alicante University professor Joaquin Alvado and presented at the Venice Architecture Biennale, the most important worldwide event for international architecture.

Dynamic Cities is the title of the research project, the result of more than 15 years’ work by the architect Joaquín Alvado. It was on display at Venice’s Palazzo Mora.

Levantina gave material shape to the architect’s intervention through a major element whose architectural piece shaped Dynamic Cities. This 450-kg element, based on Japanese origami structures and the void as the structure that generates dynamic spaces, was made from natural stone originating largely in the province of Alicante.
