Aeropuerto de Zaragoza

The most poetic and functional architecture manifests itself in aeropuerto de Zaragoza, inspired by water and as interactive as it is beautiful. Verde Coto granite fills the walls and floors with elegance.

“A transparent container for the emotion of reunions and farewells”. These are the evocative words used by the Luis Vidal + Architects architecture practice to describe their project for the new aeropuerto de Zaragoza. Inaugurated in 2008, the year of the Universal Expo, the infrastructure is inspired by the event’s leitmotif (water) to create a building that is elegant and appealing like few others. Water inspired the design of the undulating roof, but also the wall and floor cladding in Verde Coto granite.
The green background of this Natural Stone, traversed by light-coloured seams and featuring organic white and grey shapes, evokes beds of seaweed carried by a crystalline current. The lustre and appealing aesthetic of Verde Coto granite finds its perfect combination in the external glass walls, which lighten the surface and improve its integration into the surroundings. The general elegance of the project is due to the wise choice of structural and cladding materials and the humility of an architecture at the service of people, never the other way around.
